01 / GET READY
Get comfortable before you begin.
Use headphones in a quiet room. Turn your device volume down first. Play the middle tone and gently adjust this control until it is comfortable and clearly audible. Keep device volume fixed after that.
Test tones never exceed this chosen reference level. There is also a low software gain cap, but we cannot measure the actual loudness of your headphones. Do not raise device volume to chase a missing tone. Stop at any time if uncomfortable.
Before starting, check your headphone sides: left and right tones should come from the matching ear. Use stereo headphones with mono audio disabled.
Hearing belongs in the brain-health conversation.
The 2024 Lancet Commission lists hearing loss among 14 potentially modifiable dementia risk factors. Its 7% population-attributable estimate is a model for a population, not your personal risk or a promise that treatment prevents dementia.
The ACHIEVE trial found no slowing of cognitive decline over three years in the full study population. A prespecified analysis suggested benefit in a higher-risk cohort. Hearing care can help with listening without needing a dementia-prevention promise.
