|---|---|---|
| What is the normed average? | 100 within the relevant age group. | Scientific overview |
| Does raw performance stay the same? | No. Speed, memory and vocabulary show different age patterns. | Life-span study |
Norming describes the reference scale. It does not guarantee that any current convenience sample will average exactly at its center.
What affects it?
The test, language, reference population and date of the norms matter. Research on raw performance also finds that processing-speed tasks peak earlier than vocabulary tasks; this is different from comparing age-adjusted IQ scores. Scientific overview, life-span study

Common questions
Do older adults automatically have lower IQ scores?
An age-normed score compares performance with an age reference group. Raw scores and age-normed scores answer different questions.
Does the average describe every country or language?
It describes the scale's norming group. A test needs evidence for the population and language in which it is used.
Can an online score tell me my mental age?
We have no validated conversion from Helibrain performance to mental age, so we do not offer one.
